Volunteer

Susan G. Komen for the Cure is about people - people who choose to do something to make a difference. Over 75,000 people across the world volunteer for their local affiliate. We’re proud of our community and the work that our volunteers have done and continue to do for us. Please join us to make breast cancer awareness and education a priority here for everyone in our community. There are four general categories of volunteer opportunities:

Komen Race for the CureĀ®:

The Komen San Diego Race for the Cure® is the largest fundraising event for our local affiliate, having raised more than $5 million since its inception in 1995. Last year, our total number of participants was more than 14,000. To accomplish this, we need hundreds of volunteers like you to help us out with the planning, preparation, and race day logistics for this monumental event. Volunteers do everything from registering Race participants, selling Komen merchandise, putting together box lunches for Race participants, and assisting affiliate staff with general office duties. There is an on-going race committee that has some openings if you desire to be in on the planning and production of the race.

Health Fairs, Expos and Special Events:

These occur throughout the calendar year and are for those interested in talking to the public and representing Komen for the Cure at public events.

Speaker's Bureau:

As our local affiliate of Komen for the Cure increases in visibility in our community, many different organizations throughout the year invite representatives from Komen to come speak to them or appear at an event they are hosting. Topics range from personal experiences, general history of Komen, and information on breast cancer. Additional training and education will be provided for those interested in representing Komen. Sometimes, this just involves going to an event, collecting a donation, and saying a few words about Komen. This type of volunteer opportunity is available to adults only and requires Speaker's Bureau training. Contact our office 858-573-2760 or Thee@sdkomen.org if you’re interested in attending our training.

Affiliate Office:

Throughout the year, Komen San Diego has needs in the office that volunteers can help us fulfill. Examples of duties would be assistance with mailing, filing, bookkeeping, special projects and answering the phone. This opportunity is open to all, but might sometimes be restricted to adult volunteers. Contact our office if you would like to volunteer at Thee@sdkomen.org or call us at 858-573-2760.
