EXERCISING WILL POWER
Become a partner in our mission to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.

Your Will or Trust

Your will or trust is just one part of your total estate plan, but it is the most important part. If you do not leave a will, or trust, your good intentions leave with you. With a will or trust you can provide for those you love; relative or friend. With a will or trust you can make a charitable donation to causes that are important to you and minimize taxes and other expenses. For the benefits of leaving Komen San Diego in your will or trust, please see your tax advisor.

Give a Bequest

One way to give is with a bequest. Your will or trust can designate that a specific amount be transferred as a gift to the Komen San Diego Affiliate. Such a gift can take the form of cash, stocks, bonds, books, real estate, or any type of asset. You may also give a percentage of your estate. The bequest lets you pass on your gift to the Komen San Diego Affiliate free of estate tax. Please see your tax advisor.

Consider a Gift of Life Insurance

A gift of life insurance to the Komen San Diego Affiliate can be a way to make a significant donation. If you have existing policies for which you no longer need the coverage, consider assigning ownership to Komen. By naming Komen as both owner and beneficiary, you may get a tax deduction as well as make a generous gift at low cost. Please see your tax advisor.

Gifts of Real Estate

If you own property that is fully paid off and has appreciated in value, an outright gift may be the simplest solution. You may be able to deduct the fair market value of your gift, avoid all capital gains taxes and remove that asset from your taxable estate. Please see your tax advisor.

Living Trust

The living trust is often a good supplement to a will for those who wish to avoid the time and expense of probate. There are many kinds of trusts for many different purposes, but they all have one thing in common: they are a means of assuring that your property will be handled, and ultimately passed on, in the way you wish.

Make an Outright Gift

When you make a significant gift outright, you have the joy of seeing your donation put to good use right away. You also may receive an income tax deduction if you itemize on your tax return or avoid capital gains tax on gifts of property. If you give appreciated securities to the Komen San Diego Affiliate you may avoid tax gain. Because applicable tax law varies from donor to donor, please see your tax advisor for your particular situation.

Survivor Stories

Tami Ausland

I'm 35 years old. In 2005, I decided to sign up for the Breast Cancer 3-Day® walk in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. My mother's sister is an 11-year survivor; however, she isn't not the only reason I decided to walk. Tami's story

Diane Keane

In 2005 we returned to the race. As we looked over at the survivors having their picture taken I looked at my daughter and said, "That's a club that I never want to be part of." Diane's story
